Fatherhood
Counselling for men

You can talk with me about becoming a father, adjusting to parenthood or the kind of relationship you want with your child. We start with what is happening for you and what you want to work on.

Becoming a dad

You may want to discuss the birth, new responsibilities, changes in your relationship or uncertainty about being a parent. I will ask about your experience rather than assume what fatherhood means to you.

The father you want to be

We can explore how your own upbringing influences the choices you make now. Where useful, we can agree a practical change to try and review what happens.

When your mood changes

Persistent low mood, anxiety or difficulty managing daily life after becoming a parent deserves support. Speak to your GP or health visitor about health concerns. Counselling can also give you space to explore your experience of becoming a father and the changes affecting you and your relationships.

Before you book

Questions worth asking.

Can I ask about counselling before my baby is born?+
Yes. You can talk with me about becoming a father, your concerns and what you want to prepare for.
Can I discuss being a dad after separation?+
Yes. We can discuss how separation affects you as a father and the relationship you want with your child. Counselling does not replace legal advice about arrangements.
Does feeling low after becoming a dad mean I have depression?+
Feeling low does not by itself confirm depression. If it persists or affects daily life, speak to your GP or health visitor. We can also discuss whether counselling fits the support you want.
Do I need to attend with my partner?+
No. This is one-to-one counselling for you. We can discuss your relationships without your partner attending.
Can I choose phone or video appointments?+
Yes. Phone and video appointments are available across the UK, subject to availability. In-person appointments are in Southport.
