Anger
counselling for men

If anger is something you want to understand or respond to differently, we can look at what happens before, during and after it, without deciding in advance what it means.

What you might want to discuss

For example:

  • Arguments or conflict you want to understand.
  • What happens in the moments before it escalates.
  • The effect an incident had on someone else.

How I work with this

We can work through a specific incident, including what you noticed beforehand, what you did and what happened next. The work can include identifying a response to practise and, where harm was done, considering responsibility for it. Counselling does not excuse threatening or abusive behaviour.

Before you book

Questions worth asking.

Is anger something you can actually work on in counselling, or do I just need to calm down?+
We can examine specific situations and responses and agree what you want to work on. I do not promise a particular result.
Will you tell me my anger is wrong?+
We will distinguish the feeling from what you do. Actions and their impact are part of the discussion.
What if I’m worried I might hurt someone?+
If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. Do not wait for a counselling appointment. We can discuss appropriate specialist support for concerns about harming others.
How is this different from an anger management course?+
This is individual counselling, with a focus agreed with you. It is not a standard anger-management course.
Can we look at a recent argument in counselling?+
Yes. We can discuss what happened, your response and its effect, then consider what you want to change.
