Terms of Service

Last updated: 7 October 2026

Start with a free welcome call. If we decide to work together, your personalised working agreement confirms the arrangements, dates and terms before the work begins. Your welcome call carries no obligation to book counselling.

The service

Chris Brotherton t/a Men’s Therapy UK is a private counselling practice operated by Chris Brotherton, MNCPS (Acc.), sole trader, based in Southport, Merseyside. Services include counselling and Single-Session Therapy (SST). Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the other therapeutic approaches used are drawn on within counselling rather than sold separately.

Counselling is not a medical service and Chris Brotherton is not a medical doctor, psychiatrist, or regulated health professional. If you are in a medical or psychiatric crisis, please contact your GP, call 999, or call the Samaritans on 116 123.

Starting work together

We start with a one-to-one welcome call by telephone or video call. The welcome call covers mutual questions, how I work and the process, contracting, payment and your preferences for beginning the work. It is not therapy. If we agree to work together, I send a working agreement containing bank transfer details. You e-sign the agreement and pay for the agreed work before therapy begins. The contract sets out the terms of our working relationship, conversation frequency and boundaries. These website terms apply to use of this site and any initial enquiry. The individual contract governs the therapeutic relationship.

Confidentiality

I treat what you tell me confidentially. Information may need to be shared in the following circumstances.

  • Where there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to you or another person.
  • Where a court of law requires disclosure.
  • Where there is reasonable concern about the safeguarding of a child or vulnerable adult.

Where possible, I would discuss breaking confidentiality with you before doing so. Relevant themes may be discussed in clinical supervision without identifying you, as required by the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.

Payment and cancellation

Payment methods, refunds and the cancellation policy are set out in the Payment & Cancellation Policy. Nothing there or here limits your statutory rights.

Professional standards

Chris Brotherton is an Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and a member of Addiction Professionals. Practice is governed by the NCPS Ethical Framework. Complaints about professional conduct can be referred to the NCPS at ncps.com.

Website use

This website is provided for information purposes. Content on this site does not constitute clinical advice and should not be treated as such. I make reasonable efforts to keep information accurate but cannot guarantee it is always current or complete.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
