What you might want to discuss
For example:
- Feeling disconnected in a relationship or group.
- Changes after a move, separation or retirement.
- Starting, maintaining or deepening contact with others.
How I work with this
We can discuss the relationships you have, the contact you would like and what makes that easier or harder. Where useful, we can consider a practical step alongside the counselling. I do not assume that a larger social circle is your goal.
Appointments
Start with a free welcome call to discuss what you want to work on and ask about sessions. We agree appointments separately, subject to availability.
Before you book
Questions worth asking.
Isn't loneliness just something you fix by being more sociable?+
We can look at the kind of connection you want and what would make that easier. More social activity is not a goal I assume for you.
Can counselling actually help with loneliness, or do I just need more friends?+
Counselling can provide a place to examine relationships and choices. It does not replace friendship or community contact.
What if I don't think I'm the type to open up to people?+
We can discuss what feels difficult about speaking with someone and how you want sessions to proceed.
Is this really a 'counselling' issue, or should I just try harder socially?+
You can bring loneliness to counselling. We discuss your circumstances and the support or practical changes you want to explore.
Can we discuss feeling lonely within a relationship?+
Yes. We can explore the kind of connection you want and your experience of the relationship.
