What you might want to discuss
For example:
- An action or decision that is hard to set down.
- Questions about what was and was not your responsibility.
- Whether a practical step or a change in behaviour is appropriate.
How I work with this
We can discuss what happened, whether anyone else was affected, and the circumstances at the time. Where repair is relevant, we consider safety, boundaries and the other person’s wishes. Counselling does not require you to contact anyone or secure their forgiveness.
Appointments
Start with a free welcome call to discuss what you want to work on and ask about sessions. We agree appointments separately, subject to availability.
Before you book
Questions worth asking.
Isn't guilt just something I should get over?+
We can examine what the guilt concerns and how it affects your life now. There is no instruction to simply put it aside.
What if what I feel guilty about can't be fixed?+
We can discuss the loss or consequences, your responsibility and how you want to act from here. Not every consequence can be changed.
Is this the same as confession, or being told I'm forgiven?+
No. I do not grant forgiveness or decide what another person should feel. We examine your experience and choices.
How is guilt work different from working on shame?+
We can discuss both regret about an action and broader judgements about yourself, using your own description rather than insisting on a distinction.
Will guilt work require me to apologise to someone?+
No. We consider your circumstances and responsibilities. Contact with another person is not a requirement.
