Man-to-man conversations with Chris

Burnley & Pendle Counselling for Men
By phone or video-call

I work with men across Burnley and Pendle online by secure video or phone, weekends and evenings included subject to availability, payment upfront by bank transfer locks in the meeting date and time. It starts with a free initial call, and there is no referral form or assessment to clear first.

Why online counselling works well in east Lancashire.

Depending on where you live in east Lancashire, travelling to a private therapy room can turn a 50-minute session into most of an evening. Online counselling avoids adding travel to the appointment.

Working online removes the journey rather than the therapy. The session happens in your own front room, in the car on a break, or in the spare room once the house has gone quiet. Same fifty minutes, same therapist, nothing lost to getting there and back.

It also means there is no building to walk into. If that matters to you, say so on the first call.

What you need for an online session.

A room where you will not be walked in on, and a phone or a laptop. The link comes by email beforehand - nothing to install, no account to set up. If the signal drops the session carries on by phone.

Men counselling men.

If you specifically want to work with a male counsellor, Men’s Therapy UK offers that option. Working online means where you are in east Lancashire does not narrow the choice.

What you can bring to counselling.

Work that stopped, or might.

Redundancy, a contract not renewed, a firm winding down. The money is one problem. Being the man who used to provide is a different one, and it lands later.

Drinking that stopped being social.

It does not always arrive as “I have a drink problem”. It can look like sleeping badly, a shorter fuse, or a quiet arithmetic about how many it was last night.

Being a father to a pattern you inherited.

Wanting to do it differently from how it was done to you, and finding the old script comes out anyway.

Anger that gets there before the words.

Not necessarily violence. A short fuse, a slammed door, an atmosphere in the house, and whatever follows once it has passed.

Counselling questions men in Burnley & Pendle ask.

Does the welcome call commit me to counselling?

+

No. You can ask questions, tell me what you would like help with and decide whether to work with me. There is no obligation to book counselling afterwards.

I work shifts. Can you actually fit around that?

+

Usually, yes. Weekday evenings run to 8pm, Saturday mornings and some Sunday slots exist, and online sessions do not need to be at the same time every week. Bring your rota to the Q&A call and we can look at it properly.

I am already on an NHS waiting list. Should I wait?

+

That is your call and both can run alongside each other. You can start here to have somewhere to put it while you wait, then take the NHS place when it comes. Nothing here requires you to give up your position in a queue.

Is online counselling really going to do anything?

+

We discuss what you want to work on and whether online counselling is a suitable format. We review its usefulness during sessions rather than assuming an outcome.

Who else can I talk to locally, for free?

+

Andy’s Man Club runs free weekly peer groups for men and needs no referral - it can be used alongside counselling or instead of it. Their groups page at andysmanclub.co.uk/groups lists what is currently running and is the place to find your nearest. Samaritans and CALM are there any time.
