How online counselling works in Blackburn and Darwen.
Sessions run by secure video or phone. A link arrives beforehand and the session lasts the same fifty minutes it would in a room.
Travelling to Preston or Manchester for a fifty-minute appointment can take most of an evening once the journey is counted. Online removes that journey.
It also means there is no building to arrive at, and no reception to pass through.
Covered from here
What you need for an online session.
Somewhere you will not be interrupted and a phone, tablet or laptop. The link comes by email beforehand, with nothing to download. If the signal goes, the session carries on by phone.
Men counselling men.
If you specifically want to work with a male counsellor, Men’s Therapy UK offers that option. It is men only, so that part is already settled.
What you can bring to counselling.
Holding a family together.
Being the one who manages everything, with no obvious point at which anyone manages you.
Anger that lands at home.
Keeping it together all day and then losing it over something small in the kitchen.
Health worries that will not settle.
A symptom, a scan, a waiting period - and the loop it starts running in the background.
Work that is secure but wrong.
A job you cannot justify leaving and cannot face another decade of.

Does the welcome call commit me to counselling?
+
No. You can ask questions, tell me what you would like help with and decide whether to work with me. There is no obligation to book counselling afterwards.
What happens if I have to cancel?
+
Cancel with at least 48 hours notice in writing and the fee is refunded in full. Inside 48 hours it is not, because the time was held for you and cannot be filled at short notice.
Can I pay weekly rather than in advance?
+
Each pay-as-you-go session is paid before it happens, so in practice yes - you are paying week by week rather than committing to a block. Blocks are the option that requires payment up front.
Is there anything you will not work with?
+
Active crisis needs a different kind of help than weekly counselling, and I will say so rather than take it on. Couples work and under-18s are also outside what I offer.
What if I want to change counsellor later?
+
Then you should, and it does not need to be a difficult conversation. Fit matters more than loyalty, and I would rather help you find someone who works than keep you out of politeness.
